Toyota vs. Jeep

Hello everyone,

My name is Jen, and I am trying to convince a whole bunch of people that buying a toyota is better than buying a Jeep. If anyone has some free time it would be awesome if you could help me out.

Never think that any vehicle is stronger than any other because you can make them into whatever you want. There have been many really good toyotas and jeeps out there. If you are talking about stock vehicles, then jeep has proven itself many times over since they came out way back when. Not to say that toyota hasn't proven itself, it just hasn't been around for as long and a lot of people prefer the reliability of jeeps. In my personal opinion, jeep is one of the best wheelin' vehicles out there. That's what they were made for in the military--to traverse offroad terrain that the larger transport trucks couldn't go or fit into. Jeep is better.

toyotas suck, get a jeep, its at least american  

The only good thing that i can really say about Toyota is that the 22R and 22RE motors run forever in the older trucks. Otherwise I don't exactly like them. The front end on all of them look horrible too. Just get a jeep--they're sweet.

i agree that jeeps are better than toyota's but hey they each have their strong and weak points  

jeeps are superior for offroading. they have tried and tested drivetrains. good suspensions and the YJ's TJ's and CJ's were created for offroading. the aftermarket is more available and the parts are cheaper. imports should stay in their home countries where they belong.

Your'e recommending a YJ with a 4-cyl engine and Dana 30 / 35 axles made of glass for an "off road vehicle" ?

I'd go jeep if forced to choose between them and a yota. Rubicon though, not a 'Yuppie Jeep'.

when i build an offroader, there is no stock axles under my rides. i give em stuff that'll take my abuse and ask for more. i put dana 60's front and rear in jeeps as a base and go to a 70 rear if i think it could need extra umph. as for trannies and transfer cases. i once squeezed a 5+4 dual stick into a cj. with the 360 it could lug really well. but there is a heck of a lot of custom linkage making then. and to put power to the front i used a chain drive with a double roller60HD industrial chain. worked really well.

P.S. my creations no longer look like that which they started out as. there is no body to speak of after i get through it.

I got a phone call sunday from my buddy, he was stuck in his jeep, and I went in my dakota to go get him, pickups are the best, in my opinion  

By the name I hope you can tell that I would say get a yota.  They are some tuff trucks right out of the box.  Like all vehicles they do have some draw backs.  Parts are pricey if you don't know where to get them.  Depending where you are the parts might be hard to get as well.  Let me say this I love my 85 toy pickup.  It was my first truck.  I got it when I was 15 and now I am 27.  Jeeps are good vehicles too.  I just like a truck better even though I just bought a 77 fj40 landcrusier.  In my opinion the  truck is just safer.  Jeeps are top heavy.  Anyway I cast my vote for the Toyota.  Really you are just going to have to decide for yourself.  If you  can test drive both kinds.  That will be the clincher.  

I have two toyotas and while i'm wheelen in either one of them  my buddys are fixen on there jeeps.

Get whatever you can afford and get the hell out of the house and go rompin! When it breaks drag it home, fix it with stronger parts and go break another part.  

If you are talking new, the I'd go with the FJ-Cruiser with the rear locker, or the truck with the TRD package that has the rear locker. If your talking used I'd still go with a Toyota. People think Jeeps are made out of gold, and you'll pay for it.  

i like the jeep. I can spin it around on a dime and being as it easily accepts the Dana axles and any tranny combo there is i really like it. i would love to see a toyota try to get the reduction that i got when i put the 5+4 combo in. in 1+1 at idle the 4.0L just pulled up a rock outcropping. i still have yet to find a toyota that can keep up to my jeeps.
