I thought it was '03 that Dodge introduced the new body style and a 'true' 4-door... but I could be mistaken

The first true 4-door Diesel was available in late '02, although by most classifications it will be a '03 body style that you are after. You could get what Dodge considered a 4-door in '00 with the diesel, but essentially it’s an extended cab that all four doors open.

ok so no go with the 4-door. What about the extended cab, does it come in a short bed or is it all standard beds and long beds?

I thought there were only two sizes of bed, 6.5' and 8', a short and a long?

they do make them and they are actually quite popular in the diesel racing/offroading community because of their length but a lot of people like them and are happy with them which is why you dont always see them for sale but i would strongly reccoment getting a '00 club cab(aka extended cab) short bed diesel because they are bullet proof and the cummins will never dissapoint you and there are many aftermarket engine upgrades that will give you gobs more power and better mileage if your drive correctly
