hey, i have a 92 yj with the stock suspension, and im *** tired of it! it rides so rough that i hit some whoops at 5mph and broke the weld on my muffler, while my friend in an explorer was running over the same whoops at 20 and didnt even have his cd skip. so now im determined to put in some nicer springs, but dont know which ones. i would not like to get more than 3" of lift when i do it. i have had no trouble at all finding 1.5"to3" lift kits, but which brand? do i go fabtech, skyjacker, superlift, tough country, black diamond? are there any particular ones that i should flat out avoid?

any help would be awesome as i have never done any suspension work on my wrangler, or any other 4x4 for that matter.

the reason it rides so ruff is the short shackles and trac bars on both ends. Take both trac bars off and install some one inch shackles. That will smooth out the ride. I did it to mine and it works. Don't go more then 3 inches of suspension lift. Install some good shocks(RS9000, Bilstean, FOX). Stay away from procomp. I broke the rear spring and had to rebuild the rear springs twice before that because of sag. I have a 93 YJ and lots of experience with these rigs. Rubicon Express springs seem strong(thats what I run now). If you go more then 3 inches of lift, you will get a stiff ride. These YJs are just not designed to go fast through woops. The reason your friends explorer can go faster because of suspension design and he is running a longer, more stable wheelbase. But a YJ can crawl like a cat. Go out to your garage, take off the trac bars then go for a test drive. you will see a dramatic improvement.

My setup is 4.5 inch rubicon extreme duty springs, rs9000, one inch shackles, no trac bars, no sway bar in the front, short shaft kit, tom woods rear cv shaft, shimmed rear axle for cv shaft. I have no problems with this set up. Its smooth going down the HWY, and decent in rough roads. Keep in mind, mine is setup for slow speed rock crawing. If you REALLY want to set up for high speed stuff, go get a 4 link coil over kit. But these are VERY expensive and requires a professional welder/Fabricator to install.

Like I said, YJ's are not designed for high speed in the dirt off roading. You can build them to handle it, But it takes a special set up.
