Hey everyone, the Fun Buggy project is still moving along, watch for the next full installment in our January 08 issue.  recently I've been working with the PolyPerformance crew on the cooling system.  We have an aluminum Radiator from Ron Davis and some aluminum tubing from Burns Stainless that we are using to plumb the radiator since it is in the back of the buggy.

Where's the front driveshaft? Is that one of those mall crawlers?

Front driveshaft are in from Driveline Tech out of Oregon.

I spent the past few weekends up at PolyPerformance working on the buggy, building floors, and a trunk in the back for storage and camping gear.  All these parts are made of 1/8-inch aluminum.  While Drew, the head fabricator, did most of the welding, I did get a chance to practice my tig welding of aluminum.

we designed and built this buggy from scratch at Poly Performance, however they are still looking into the viability of building chassis's from scratch versus selling all the parts for do it yourself builders.  Poly Performance can supply everything from shocks to transfercases and all the brackets needed to build y our own suspension.  There are a lot of good fabrication shops out there that offer chassis's as well.

Funbuggy is nice. I have a quick question. How do I post a question? I'm new to this site and haven't owned a 4X4 in 9 years but I'm ready to get back into it. The street stuff got old and things have changed with the whole wheel size and width thing since I've owned a 4X4. I just bought a new ford 4X4 and I'm buying parts left and right but the wheel stuff is way different than it used to be.

I believe the Fun Buggy is being built out of 4130N or possibly DOM (pretty sure its 4130, not 100% though and don't want to look it up) so for that you are looking at anywhere from $3-13/ft for the tubing alone depending on what type, size, day of the week, and mood of the metal yard.

I wouldn't use 'normal' steel. Mild Steel would probably work, but why? With a project this big I would want more. Personally, I would use nothing less than 1 3/4" .120wall DOM or 4130. I may even go as far as to build the main structure out of 2" .120. Again, I don't remember exactly what Fred used on Fun Buggy, but this is how I would do it.

Yeah I know but I was actually wondering how to post from the main screen. Post something like funbuggy with pics and stuff. I know how to post a reply but not create a post. But anyways I was wondering if anyone new some good 17X10 wheels. It seems like newer model vehicles these days only accept big wheels, which explains the reason that I see so many with 20" rims with very narrow low profile tires. I'm looking for minimum size of 17" but I want a 10 or 12 wide so I can put some meat on. I had a 96 dodge with 6" of lift and 36X13.5" swampers years ago. I have been into street rigs since then but I'm ready to come back to 4 wheeling and the whole tire and wheel thing has changed so much that I don't even know what to buy. I mean can I even buy a deep dish 20? Please tell me where to look because the sites that I have been to only have very narrow wheels which aren't appealing to me at all. Even with 20's, most tires only go up to a 35 and then straight to 49's or bigger. Please forgive me for I haven't done alot of research yet but I want to buy soon.
