I have a 91 w150 with the stock 318 and trans no clue what it is. i want to build an extreme all around off road vehicle, trails, mud, and crawling. I decided to go with rockwell 2.5 ton axles front and rear with pinion brakes. Along with custom 4 link and coil overs. Wanted to find out if any one out there would have any sugestions on engine, trans, and transfer case selection? This project isnt goin to happen over night and am willing to put a lot of time and money into it. Love the body style and body is in fairly good shape. if any one could help it would be great. this is the only forum that i have been on. Just starting off. Thanks guys and gals.

thanks for the reply and the link will go check it out right now. Glad some one else likes this idea. i think that the older dodges have a lot of potential and im not quite sure why people dont build them like this more often. I think i am going to stick with the stock equipment for now and just do a little upgrading to the components until some thing breaks then replace with some thing bigger and better.

Drop a Factory crate 360 magnum it will bolt up, it's faster, it will cost less than you will spend rebuilding when you look at apples for apples.Your trans system will work. around $5000. motor another $2000. in extras

Wow that sounds like a really cool build, i you want a good motor think about at least a built 360 or go to a 383 or heck you could even use the v10 out of heavy duty rams.  THere are so many choices, just go get a mopar catlog and look at all the crate engines, as for your transmission it will not survive your new intended use so i suggest an nv4500 5 speed manual used in heavy duty rams and for t case either np 205 or newer nv241 trans out of heavy duty rams

Solid axle chevys can't be beat!
My dream truck: 73-91 chevy 3500 crew cab srw with dana 60/14bolt, 6 inc long travel lift with KING shocks, 37 inc tires and a 24v cummins diesel, nv5600 and np205
