I have a 99 H1 Hummer. Any one who knows anything about H1's knows that the 6.5 turbo diesel is crap. So I'm turning to a Duramax.(isuzu) The gentlemen swapping it have said there is a $12,000 kit I can buy to help make this conversion easier. Isn't this kind of pricey for just for a kit.

Depends on what the kit has in it.... tell us what it includes and we'll tell you if it's worth it or not.  

Whose kit is it? I've spent a lot of time around H1's and am curious to what all is included for 12k, the engine? There is a fair amount of work to be done, but the body is relatively easy to remove, and the only real clearance issues should be easily taken care of by and a larger than factory body lift. If you get a chance take a look at an H1 Alpha and that should act as a helpful template in showing you exactly what will need to be done.  

Here is what I would look for in a kit
#1 Engine and trans mounts
#2 Intercooler and plumbing
#3 Fuel system plumbing
#4 Coolant hoses
#5 Complete electronics to the point where gauges, creature comforts and safety is included
#6 trans and t case shifting linkeage
#7 fan shroud or E fans
#8 Body lift or clearancing instructions

I would think that the exahust and drivelines are not included

A duramax engine with an allison should run you about $6500 to $8500 depending on the mileage. $5000 should yeild to planty of goodies on the kit. If you are using the factory GM H1 trans than shave about $1500 off the engine price $5000 to $7000  at this point the $5K to 7K leftover should yeild to a pretty dam good kit.
