Hello all,

I am new to the site and greatful for it.

My friend and I have this 76 GMC that we are trying to get going here, but have not been successful up to this point, mainly because we really don't know where to begin.

The truck will start but only if we pour gas directly into the carb (4BBL) other than that it will not start. We have replaced the fuel pump, but I am not sure if my friend put it in right. You know that "arm" like protursion that comes off of the fuel pump, well I am not sure if he put it above the ecentric or below the ecentric. Not only that i am not sure if he connected all the hoses back correctly, does anyone have a diagram of the correct hose conections.

We blew out all the fuel lines going from the duel tanks up to the pump, so none of the lines are restricted.

Yes there is gas, plenty of it in both tanks.

Ant help or adive would be much appre ciated

There is a push rod between the cam and the fuel pump lever.  There is a way to keep that in place while changing a fuel pump.  Between the fuel pump and the timing cover there are two bolts, the upper one is treaded all the way through and you just thread in a longer bolt (only needs to be finger tight) against the pump push rod.  If the push rod is on the high side of the cam lobe you will still have a difficult time bolting the fuel pump on.  You may want to double check your install.  If the truck had been sitting for some time not being used, you will most likely need to rebuild the carb.  I am guessing that you have the 350, and if it is the origional it should be a 4 bolt main block.  The 2 bolt main and 4 bolt main blocks used the same casting number 3970010 and you have to pull the oil pan to see what you have.  There were other casting numbers but the one I listed should be the one you have if it is a 350.

Hey, thanks for advice.

Even though the truck will run when we pour gas into the carb, you think it should be rebuilt anyway. Why do you think gas is not getting to the carb at all. I think I am going to go out and get a new fuel pump and start from scratch.

Thanks

When you pour gas "through" the carb it is going directly into the engine, not through the mettering of the carb.  If the truck has sat not run for some time the fuel left in it varnished and has plugged up the carb.
