My 88 Toyota project truck in the works I just got an 88 Toyota pickup 3.0 V6 basically stock besides a  2.5 or 3 inch body lift I figured I would just start a new topic with my build for questions and how to’s  that I might need help on. My plan right now is to do a solid axel swap on the front  and put 4 to 6 inch suspension lift on it put a roll cage on the inside of the cab.  I was going to just keep the 3.0 v6 in it for now and maybe down the road put something bigger in it I was wondering
1. what kind of transfer case I should  be looking at getting along with axils front and rear
2. I’m going to be using it for off road use only  and was thinking about Dana 60’s  the truck will be in all kinds of terrain on the trail mud ,rocks, bolder and ill be putting on 35” to 40” tiers  would the Dana 60 be a better chose than the Dana 44 or maybe something else out there that is even better
3. if there is anythang that you may have done or suggestions on anythang let me know this is my first build so im open for any suggetions and my wife keeps asking me if im sure that i know what im doing i just relpy saying yes veary  Sarcastically

There are probly be a lot more questions as I go so ill just keep posting them on hear  thanks for any help boys and girls

hey I am about to begin my 88 toyota build up too. And for the question bout the axles that all depends on how much money u want to spend. U can get custom axle built by dynatrac axles for ur toyota if u dont wanna run a full width axle. or if u go to sky manufacturing u can get the diamond axle. Those will be two more expensive routes. But if u are going to want to go for a cheaper but reliable front axle u can look for a toyota solid axle outta a 84-85 toyota. Then use chromoly axle shafts, and a birfield eliminator for strength.

The hard part bout the dana axles is that u have to find one with a passanger side differential. so that would be from a GMC.

I am going with an 85 toyota front axle for my build up.

so wat type of four wheeling do you plan on doing? Because you asked about transfer cases so i would like to help you think of them.. But if you go to www.marlincrawler.com u can find good transfer case set-ups there from dual to individuals.

I am new kid on the block so here goes. I have a 88 toyo with a 22ef. I am starting a restoration of the old girl she has 222 thousand no oil leaks or burning. The valves where begining to tap so I decided to bring her back to life.  What are some bolt on heads that would fit that engine with larger intake and exaust valves.  I have a small cam. I would like to give her a little more power.  Thanks .

For the kits, they are all about the same.  Some may have things that another doesn't. Compare them and see which one fits what you want.  For the install, the work is pretty much the same.  All Pro has instructions on their site so you can get an idea of what is involved.  Once you get a used axle, it would be a great idea to rebuild it.  A couple SAS kits have axle rebuild parts in them.  While its apart you might as well put in beefier shafts and birfs.  With the v6, a toy axle can stand up to 37's, maybe a little bigger, if you wheel gently.  I have seen the GM axles go pretty cheap as a pair and not much more for the entire parts truck.  I want to say Sky makes a kit to swap in those axles.  You wouldn't have to worry about breakage for the size tires you plan to run.

Actually, Ted at engnbdr.com has much better prices and service, and is a 22R guru.

As far as axles for a SAS, a 79-85 Toy front axle would be the best bet for cost and simplicity. ANd they can be beefed up quite a bit if need be.
