All CB radio are limited to 4 watts of output due to FCC regulations, so when it comes to performance, the biggest differentiator is going to be your antenna. A entry level CB with a good tuned antenna will work work leaps and bounds better than an expensive CB with a cheap antenna. Also, it's critical to tune your antenna properly for best performance. For information on antenna tuning you can visit our CB Resources center here that has a bunch of articles on how to do that at http://www.rightchannelradios.com/index.php?main_page=page&id=20.
Concerning radios, the Uniden 510XL is a radio that's been popular with the off-road community as it's cheap, compact and is well built.
Best of luck......

Ahh,heres my two cents,Mount the quality antenna you buy as close to the middle of your roof.i wont get into the physics of the matter, but it will get you the best reception, transmit range. i know that drilling a hole may be out of the question.I was thinking, if you have a luggage rack with the sliding bars maybe rig up a plate(al)to sling between two of them, use a square? u bolt to secure.then you dont have to drill and you get to mount an antenna in the middle.I agree alot w/Mudb8,two antennas lok cool, but really a waste of money,a sigle antenna will use the power you have more efficiently! Ask around the nearest truck stop for a nearby,REPUTABLE radio shop, dont be intimidated by the jargon, most good radio techs will be happy to explain what their offering and capable of doing.if they scoff or treat you like your stupid, take your money where it will do ya good.I used cobra 29s alot.there are some with weather bands built in,which come in handy in the bush.I had ranger, cobras,Galaxy radios.Look round the galaxy,or ranger .com websites.Luck too ya and happy wheelin!
