I've got a dilemma... I'm nineteen (which means hardly any money) and I've got a truck with serious potential. I'm in possession of an 85 K30 shortbed (454, TH400, NP205?, lockers fronat and rear...) The problems lies in the fact that I have no title, and can't get one. I have have free range of my grandad's machine shop, so mechanically I'm not worried...I have been building motors since I was twelve... I just need the proper donor body.

I haven't quite decided on what this body is going to be. Whether I want a blazer, pickup, or maybe even a CJ-7. (Full width axles and big block power... It'd be interesting.)I also caught a glimpse of an old dodge with some ratrod appeal on a link from Gotmud4x4.com. Maybe a 39' Chevy version is in order? Any ideas on what you may want are greatly appreciated.

Living in GA, there's really nothing here except alotta mud and some pretty nasty wide trails... So please keep that in mind when ideas come to mind

A K30 short bed is rare, but they were available.  You have a great foundation to build an awesome truck.  For a doner body, if the original body is in good shape and you want to keep that body style you could just find a wrecked truck of the same body style (81 through 87 for pickup) and pull the windshield to switch vin plates.  I know that is not legal, but it's not like you are steeling the truck.  The 73 - 80 had a different shaped VIN plate in the door jam (drivers side).  If you want a different body style, consider the 47 - 54 Chevrolet.  I have a 49 5-window I plan to put on a 78 Blazer frame.  The larger trucks (1 1/2 ton) of that body style have a longer hood and bigger front fenders and fit a 36" tire with no cutting.  I also have a 51 1 1/2 ton I plan to build some time.  There are several bodys that you could make work on that frame.  Good luck on the build and post up some pics when you have it together.

pics of the old Dodge that I was talkin about are right here. It's part of the Michigan Rednecks crew, I've seen alot of the video's they put out. Crazy stuff, you should check the site out. Anyway, the truck is owned by a guy named Vince...

I have not seen a K-30 factory short bed myself but have talked to people that have.  I have not seen a factory 85 extra cab either, lol.  I have seen some custom built extra cabs of that body.  If you get a chance put up a picture of your 85 extra cab dually, I would like to see it.

I'll do that when I get home around christmas time, I don't have any digital photos of it, I would have posted one yesterday just to be smart.

My dad bought it new, then I bought from him when he decided he was going to trade it on the 93 he has now. It was a canadian unit, I've seen a couple conversions that were done in texas though, just a rare thing to come across.

Well, I guess I'm gonna run the VIN numbers and see if a red flag pops up anywhere today. Hopefully I'll just keep the original body, but if not, my neighbor has a 39 body sittin in a field behind his house...

The VIN numbers are clean so we're good to go I guess...
