well i've found a good '77 donor truck and i'm thinin about pulling the 454 out and rebuilding it for my suburban. what are my options as far as fuel injecting it? this may be a stupid question, but is there a way to use the TBI off of my '87 350?

The 454 TBI injectors have a higher flow rating than the 350 injectors, not sure if the throttle body had different CFM rating between the two. Your cheapest option is to find a TBI manifold, throttle body, ECU and wire harness from an 87 up TBI 454. Otherwise if you want to spend thousands you can use an aftermarket EFI system. If you find a company to do it, they might be able to reprogram your ECU for the 454; and if the throttle body is the same between the two you could put the 454 injectors in your 350 throttle body and then just get a TBI manifold for the 454. Hope this helps you.

keep it simple. just put an aftermarket 4bbl intake and carb on it and forget about all the computer headache

TBI is a better setup for drivablity hands down, especailly cold start. Since you have a TBI truck, (wiring and fuel pump) I would look for TBI 454 setup in a bone yard and get ECM for it. It will plug into existing harness. You want 454 TBI throttle body and injectors as both are bigger.

if dead set on TBI, then i am with snoman. however if you want dirt simple, then i would go with a carb. over the last decade there has been some pretty impressive leaps in the carb world, theres more options out there than quadrajets and doublepumpers. id look into holley's truck avenger, me and my buddies have had nothing but good things from these in off camber situations. or to be different, you could try there new low rider carb, which is made to handle extreme shock and vibration

well i must tell you that, no, you can not use the TBI off of your 350 for your 454. You can use the throttle body but not the intake. Small block vs. big block. What year is your suburban? If youwant to, you can check out mine on www.webjam.com/biggernbadder I have a mutt truck. It started out as a 77 short box and not it is a 70ish pickup. I will get pics on my webjam to show how far we got
