Hey guys,

We've put up a bunch of build photos of the Danger Ranger here
www.4wheeloffroad.com/projectbuild/131_0711_1997_ford_ranger_web_extras

Feel free to ask for any specific shots or if you have any questions about the build let me know. I should warn you though that I might not be able to answer your questions right away, but I will do my best.

I followed the Ultimate Danger Ranger build from the start. I have a '93 Dakota and I am looking for a cheap, fast soild front axle swap, so if you know of any easier ways i would appreciate your input, thanks for the great mag.

Cheap, fast, and solid axle swap don't usually mix well. There are dozens of options, full width, Jeep, or mini truck axles, coils or leafs, high steer or y-link, etc.. Figure out what tire size and setup that you need and go from there. It doesn't get much cheaper than junkyard or donor axles and leaf springs usually require the least amount of fabrication. Just do your research and keep asking questions and you'll be solid in no time.

Yup it sure will work on yours. For the most part 83-97 Rangers were mechanically the same.

Ali,
The d30 is too small.  Please tell me you have plans to upgrade to at least a D44 SAS (preferably D60).  My 96 Ranger 4x4 4.0 auto 3.73LS rear; D35 open front TTB is waiting for 4wor buildup of a TTB Ranger!  Welcome to 4wor!  airborn_ranger

Yea, I'm not Ali, I'm Jason... the Online Editor and other Ranger junkie. Ali's off doing important things (you guys will love it when you see it) so I answered for him...

if i remember right the 4.0 rangers got a d35 ttb front and a ford 8.8 rear and a c3 3spd auto or the 4spd a4ld auto.the borg-warner 1354 also had a manual shift version.

Not totally true.

The Ranger never got a C3... the Ranger over the years has had the A4LD, 4R44E, 5R44E, and 5R55E for automatic transmissions. Manual trans were the R1 and R1HD (and a couple others but the R1's were the most popular).

Most all 4.0's did get the 8.8, and you are correct about the BW1354. There was a manual version used until 97 and then again in 02-03.

Hi everyone! My name is TJ. I'm almost done with my ranger ( you could check it out in the readers rides)   I put a d44 in the front and run 36 irocks ( which are really 37 if you check out the specs on the interco web site they are 36.8 inches). I say almost done because theres always something to do. I wheel it every chance I get and the only thing I'd say is to start out with chomoly axles because it sucks to change axles and ball joints in the trail at 2 in the morning when it 18 degrees outside.

The 4.0 Ranger may have come with a 8.8, but it's only a 28 spline, unless you bought a late model FX4, which came with a 31 spline, like the Explorers,F150s, and Broncos
