I am considering getting a diesel 4x4 truck.  I have heard that the new Chevy Duramax diesel is a good engine and that the previous GM diesel was not any good.  I have also heard that the Ford diesel was very good a few years back but isn't as good in the newer trucks.

I saw a 2000 Ford F-250 4-door truck with an 8" lift with 38" tires.  What is ya'lls opinion on the Ford F-250 truck with diesels?

The 7.3 liter PowerStroke is a great motor.  It should last you a long time provided you maintain it properly, and the aftermarket options for it are growing everyday.  As far as bad things about the new 6.0 liter PowerStroke.  I haven't heard anything yet.  I know that it has lots of hp/torque with less cubes and weight which is good.

Your best bet would be the Chevrolet Duramax Diesel. Sounds better than ferd's powerstroke. That's what happens to the diesel ferds, they have a burst of power than they have a stroke.

yep, the chev will yeild better mileage, theres lots of aftermarket support for both, the 6.0's have a lot of turbo issues, they definately have some impressive power. as does the 7.3 they all have problems of one thing or another, I'm into the chevy's, It's a matter of preference.

theres no need to be afraid of a 92-98 6.5 diesel either, they don't have the big torque of the new duramax or fords, they are a very dependable engine if it is properly maintained. there's tons of aftermarket options for those also, I have a 98 with a ss diesel supply +80hp ECM and exhaust, intercooler, 18:1 compression, and a bunch of other goodies, good luck passing it on a hill with a stock d-max or ford. I drag around a 34' toy hauler with it, loaded the whole contraption weighs in at 24,500 I get around 14-16mpg on the freeway and have no trouble kepping up with the traffic flow. empty the wife gets 20+ out of it.

about 10 yrs ago i had an 82 gmc k1500 w/a 6.2, 4" flomaster exhaust system, inj pump turned up, man that thing could fly.i was driving in sthrn calif., wife in car behind me,and a CHP passed me like i was standing still. i called my wife on the cell and asked how fast i was going when he passed us.....she said we were going 105 mph,the 6.2 speedo reads 85 mph, her car reads 140mph, she was freakin out...chp did not get me, he was after someone else. that was alot of fun going that fast.
so like we all say....its a personal preference, its what works for you and no one else
