steering wheel shimmy

I installed a set of re-clocked torsion keys on my 2000 gmc sierra pick-up. I also put on a set of Yokohama Geolander A/T-S tires. The size is 265/75/R16. I had the tires balanced and the front end alligned. Now I get a sterring wheel shimmy starting at 53 mph. It seems like the tires are improperly balanced. I took the truck back to the garage, and the mechanic re-balanced the tires and re-checked the allignment. The vehicle still shimmys. The technician copped and attitude and blamed the cheap *** tires. Needless to say, I am not getting any help from him. Has anybody out there got any helpfull hints?

Recheck your alignment.  the spec in the allignment machine are set up for a stock truck not one lifted. Is the shimmy up and down, or do you feel it in the steering?

The shimmy is in the steering wheel. It feels like each front tire wants to go in different directions. The torsion key instructions had an allignment recomendation, but the guy who alligned the truck said he didn't need it. Do you think this is the cause of the shimmy?

it could be. i'd take it back to him and insist that he use the recomendation chart, do the job right, or he might be getting a visit from the bbb.

It is likely the alignment.

The BBB will just call him.  I have used them before when an advertising company didn't follow through on what they stated for an add I place, so that can help.  Go back to the guy to have him re-align to the torsion clocking specs and tell him you will contact a lawyer if he doesn't; and that needs to be his time, not charged to you.

Honestly I would not change torsion bars from stock setting.
