kcpanages: ive been running i believe its 80w-90 race gear oil by valvoline. (dont quote me on the exact # on the wait of oil)....... Im picking up another 77 k-10 for $600 in good running condition and going to swap out transfers.... if that solves the tapping noise i will take my old 203 and have a pro rebuild it to hold up to my 454.... im pushing right at 520-530hp.... where are u located snoman?
That may be part of your problem because you do not run gear oil in those Tcases!!! You use non detergent old style straight weight 30 oil (SA or SB rating) The wrong lube will compromise lubrication and can lead to early failure. Also as far as a "pro rebuild" to handle a 454, if you rebuild it stock and use proper oil in it and service/change it regularly and with proper axle ratios, it will live fine behind a BB. WHere meany get in trouble with such Tcases is the never service them. use wrong oil or too tall of gears for tires and depend on low range to save day for them which places a lot of extra strain on drive chain.
BTW, I am in Ohio
