I would go with the 2JZ. I think it comes with a six-speed, and it is (relativly) easy to make 1200 hp, not that you need to. I would keep it stock except for whatever you need to do to make the swap work, like a new radiator, exhaust, wiring setup, shifter, etc. to maintain reliability. Maybe a Greddy single-turbo with beefier intercooler, but that's it. Plus, weight shouldn't be much of a problem, with the alumminum (sic?) block.
For more 2JZ ideas, check out www.mkiv.com. These people know the Supra, even though many of them are dyno queens.

Yeah, Clampy with a supra swap or built 22re would be sick! A 2.7 ltr from a Taco maybe? How bout some kind of bio-diesel or alcohol fuel project?
Looking forward to more toyota coverage...

Umm sorry to say but I really wouldn't go with the Colorado Inline five, We have the colorados as our main company vehicles at work, just cause they're cheap. They have had lots of problems with them, I think some has to do with balance due to an odd amount of cylinders. Just so u know

the total electric system sound cool, electric motors are all torque and put out max tourque and power at 1 rpm through to 10,000.
I always wondered(Other than the weight of bateries and how long they could last) y no one really does this in trail rigs.

A stock 22re is very reliable and tough. That's what I would go with.

i don't want to have to redesign the truck for a bigger power plant like a v-8, i like the manual trans and the dual cases work great, plus the big axles are geared for the little engine. I am thinking about the 22re rebuilt for torque, a 2.7 out of a 4wd tacoma if i can find one, or some little diesel. i've looked into the toyota diesel swaps, but they aren't 100% legal in the soviet republic of California. the supra suggestion is pretty cool also, definitely something to consider. keep the input coming, i'm open to suggestions.

The soviet republic of California, LOL. Now I will laugh everytime someone says California, LOL.
I keep an eye on what California does for emissions regulations (C.A.R.B.) to give an indication what could possibly come for the rest of the US a few years down the line.
I have seen supra's on ebay, some cheap. Mudb8 can haul it for you, lol.

yep, heck, I'd almost volunteer for that provided the supra got used for parts and not turned into a daily driver.

How about a 4 cyl cummins with compound turbos,intercooler,methyl/propane. You know something sick with tons of bottom end, definitly on bio-d and maybe some sort of dry-sump for those times when your less than square. No smoke though should be as clean as possible.

I think I am going to go with the Tacoma 4-cylinder. Clampy was built around a 4-cylinder (super low axle gears 7.17, dual cases, etc) so going from the maybe 100 horses in the tired 22RE to a hopeful 140 horses in a 2.7L 3RZ from a Tacoma should result in some more zip in old Clampy's step. Of course we'll be showing you the whole swap in an upcoming issue, but keep an eye here for sneak peaks.
