i have a 2004 silverado 1500 4x4 ext cab long bed... because the truck is so long it looks like the truck is real low in the front... i am thinking about turing the torsion bars to level it out. I have heard that cranking them up makes the truck ride a little rougher, but I am not concerned about that. Does anyone know a good resource I could use to guide me through the process of turning the torsion bars?
Also, by doing this am I looking at any potential problems other than having to get the truck aligned?

use a tape measure and measure from the rim to the top of the fender well then start tightening up your torsion bar bolts untill you are happy , then you have to align your front end because it throws your toe way out, the steering wheel will be straight and it wont pull but dont take it for granted because you will wear out your front tires and a alignment is cheaper than tires

It's not the "toe" that will be off, it is the "camber". Generally though, cranking torsion bars doesn't throw the camber off enough to warrant an alignment. As long as you don't go crazy with it, you should be fine.
But if you do want to get it checked take it to a place that will do a free alignment check, and I would do it before and after, so that you know the torsion crank was the culprit and not something else...

Unless the dealer took a picture of your adjuster keysk before they sold you the truck, they probably won't know it has anything done.

you can safely go 1" w/out sacrificing ride quality too much,( ive done that to my 93 k1500 and it hasnt affected much of anything that i can see) thats as much as i would go, done it plenty of times and it dont seem to hurt anything too bad. you can go up to about 2 1/2" but i would advise against it,as it would put too much strain on the frt end

I cranked up the torsion bars on my pick-up and it put alot of stress on the steering components, i've had to replace the idler arm and pitman arm with heavy duty ones, hope this helps.
