I have an 82 2 wheel drive toyota that's used as a backwoods hunting rig. The problem I'm having is getting it to run. For awhile now when you'd turn the key nothing would happen, like the starter wasn't even hooked up. I thought it may have been the starter and replaced it with no change. Even trying to jump the starter with a wire only caused the starter to jump once in awhile. After continuously turning the key the starter engages sporadically. A friend mentioned offhand about some problem toyotas had with the coil or something? Some problem where the current doesn't get directed to the starter? I'm unsure about this and am wondering if anyone may have any information that'd help. Thanks.

did you put new wires on too? check to make sure all the connections are tight. maybe replace the battery cables, sometimes they crack and break under the insulation
