I recently was given an 88 F250 and was wondering if anyone could help me identify some of the drivetrain components. I know it has a 351 W, but what tranny, transfer case, front end, and rear end do I have?

Umm... I'll guess and say it probably a Sterling 10.5 in the rear and a Dana 50 in the front with a 205 case... I could be very wrong, but that is my guess with out seeing the axles or knowing much about 88 250's... hopefully that will get somebody's mind working...

Ok....I figured out the t-case is the borg-warner 1356, and I think the front end is the 44 HD. Now what I need to know is if the tranfer case is a worth while piece, or if it's just crap!?!?

Basically the aftermarket for Borg Warners is poor. That's why NP205's and Dana 300's are more sought after. If you're just gonna lift and go with 33's or 35's, I wouldn't worry about it.
As far as the Dana 44, if its Twin Traction Beam (TTB), replace it to a Dana 60 straight axle if you are gonna put really big tires on it.

I was thinking of 37 or 39's, would this be too much for the Borg Warner? As for the front end I'm swaping the drivetrain into my 76 f100 with a dana 60 rear and a 44 out front. I was hoping to use parts off of the ttb to convert the 5 lug front to 8, but I don't know if it will even work.
