So I'm cruising my local junkyard with my girlfriend looking for parts for my 79 Chevy k20. (I need a new bed after a run in with a crane and some tree trunks). When we come across a Willys 2 door wagon, not the delivery but the super wagon. The body is in great shape, most of the windows are still there. My girlfriend says, why dont you just put that on your truck frame and forget the chevy cab. I took some measurements, and it just might work. I can keep my 454 and all the expensive parts that go with my truck and scrap the cab for a rat rod / off road Frankenstein truck.

Anyone ever seen anything like this done? Id really like to see some pictures of how it turned out. I know Ill have to custom make my front 1/4s because the wheelbase on the chevy is 131.5 inches, and the willys is somewhere around 117.

Any thoughts let me know.

Joe.

(Ill be making a series of posts as to how this turns out)

i've done something like it... my rig's in the readers rides section... i took a 1992 dodge w-250,with the cummins diesel... ripped off the cab/bed, shortened the frame/rear driveline... fabbed up some new body mount brackets, fabbed up some pedals for the 5 speed... took the steering column and gauges from the dodge, and put on a 77 jeep cherokee body... though i would have loved to have that willy's instead...  but it can be done...

though when you shorten your frame be very precise and careful... you can't make a perpindicular cut on your frame and then just weld it back together... you have to either make a notch cut much like a squared out C, or diagonal cut, and reinforce it with a fishplate...
