Hi! I'm new to the world of 4x4. I'm starting out with an older truck to make sure I don't kill the truck or me.Anyway. I have a 1988 1500 4x4. The passenger rear wheel/tire shakes bad on the roll. Theres some fluid by the hub. Is this a bad axle and seal? Also, hope I don'tsound to amateur. When you shift into neutral on the front axle shouldn't the truck drive regular 2 wheel drive or do I keep it in 2hi?

That second probably did sound kinda dumb I figured it out. The neutral position on the the front axle is to disengage the drive line, for towing. Thanks though for the first answer. I thought thats what it was. Like I said, I'm a newbie to the 4x4. I'll learn. I can tear a car to pieces and put it back together, a 4x4, not yet!

k yea you aren't actually engaging the front axle with the shifter it the transfercase you are engaging as for working on 4x4's there easy unless you get a foreign one i got a '91 sonoma and it's easy but i got a '92 yota and when i look at it it seems like a whole different world lol
