what the heck should i do to upgrade this axle. It is a bit of a dog when it comes to finding parts or upgrades. I do believe that it has the lsd, but that is like putting a button in ur pocket and running into a gunfight. Thanks for any replies.

power-trax, makes a ratchet-style locker to replace spider gearsin the lsd, but I never found any other, unless you go with a full locker. gears you can only find up to 4.56. This is all I know from looking my self.

I f yo swap in an open carrier, yo can get a bunch of differant brands of quick locks. Aussie locker is the cheapest I found, but they dont make it for the lsd.

There are two 8.25 series axles. up thru 96 the axles were 27 spline. In 97 they increased axle size a bit and upgraded to 29 spline too. It is not a weak rear axle and I would place it above a D35. They also make a gear based True Trax LSD unit for that axle. (no clutches to wear out)

If your jeep will be wheeled hard and driven on the highway, stay away from c-clip axles all together. It's easier to buy into a aftermarket upgrade axle than to bandaid the original.
