I am no expert but i do know there is alot of work involved in such a swap, to start you will need a transmission, probably easiest to get an automatic with overdrive off of an 4wd chevy truck with a 350 in it, your jeep should have a np231, i beleive advance adapters makes kits to adapt them, thats just the start of your problems, the stock axles will not hold up to V8 power, so you need to be looking for a good set of donor axles. I suggest becoming good freinds with your local junk yards. There is much much more, that is just a start for you. Even getting most of the parts through junk yards, this is still a costly procedure. good luck

Im thinkin about doin the same thing. I have a H.O. 305, with tranny and transfercase. I have been told that the stock tranny will not hold up to a V8... and chances are your transfercase wont work either... if i were you... i would tell my little brother that a six cylinder essentially has more power than the eight cylinder. (or just go for broke and drop a cummins in it... that would be fun)

I am in the process of this swap right now. A jeep 6-cyl. would be a way more easy swap. You would really only need to upgrade your trans to the AX15. Everything else would be good i believe. I am 3 months in the process & about 2K-3K into it & I still have 2 more months & another 2K to go. I am buying everything new (exhaust, radiator, etc.) because i've had bad luck in the past with junk-yard parts. I am putting in a 400SBC & TH400 trans. The NP 231 should hold up. I have a ford 8.8 already in & i am going to have the dana 30 until it blows. Take my advice go with a fuel injected 6-cylinder. If you spend 1/3 of the money you would putting in a V8 & stroke out the 4.0l to 4.6l, you will have just as much power as a v8.
