Let me start by saying i'm new to this and may be in the wrong section. I found a 1978 Ford F-250 for a thousand bucks with a dana 60 front and rear and was wondering if anyone would have any information as to how I could use this front axle? The pumpkin is on the driver side versus the passenger side and dana 60 axles are scarse around here. The ford has cancer very bad but has a great 400 motor trans and transfer case. Does anyone know how I could utilize the front axle on my chevy? I may be young but have built three heavily modified trucks now but this would be the first time doing a big conversion like this. I know it would be smarter to find a GM dana 60 but have been looking around for about a year now and have came up with nothing. Both danas have about 2 hours on fresh axles, seals, and bearings and trans has just been rebuilt. I would realy like to use the extra truck as a donor for a nice project. Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance.

yeah you could do one of a few things to get it under your chevy. you could just use the transfer case out of the ford so that its outputs would be on the correct side. for this you would have to get an adapter to go between the tranny and transfer case. or you could throw all of the drivetrain from the ford in your chevy. the motor trans and transfer case. hope this helps.
will work for jeep parts.

I have not paid a whole lot of attention to Ford, but doesn't the 78 have the divorced mount transfer case or is that just the older ones. If it is a married transfer case, Offroad Design has the adapters and input shaft (Ford used a 31 spline shaft). Sell the Ford engine, transmission and rear axle to pay for the other parts you will need. Good luck with your project.

I believe it's the 71-76 fords that have the divorced transfer case(not sure but close to them years). The 78 is a mated transfer case. I have done alot of looking on the internet and what not but cant figure out how to make a divorced ford transfer case work with my transmission. I can't even find anything on an adaptor for a turbo 400 to divorced ford np205. I have never really dealed with divorced transfer case so i'm unsure about that to (any enlightenment on that would be a great deal of help) Did chevrolet ever have a divorced tranfer case and do you think that would work?

hey guys , heres some helpful info for you, a divorced t-case will work with any trans, you have to run a short driveshaft between the trans and t-case, so all you need is a shaft that has the proper yokes to match the trans and case, some early gm crewcabs were available with a 4wd conversion that used a dana 24 divorced case, I have a couple of them around, ford used them also up to 73, international and dodge used a divorced np 205 up to the mid 70's, with a little fab work they can all be made to work, I am running an np 201 from a dodge in my 79 f-350, which also has a dodge dana 70 front in it

I may be able to help you, i've seen that the dana 60's are a little scarce in the US, not so bad here in canada, I've got a couple of dodge/gm 60 fronts laying around as well as a couple of fresh rebuilds on the rack, If you're interested they're for sale/trade, I only use dana 70 and 80 fronts in my own trucks now so I have a collection of 60's around

A divorced mount transfer case would be used with a 2WD transmission with a short drive shaft between the two. A divorced transfer case can not be mated to a transmission. To mate a married Ford NP205 to a TH400, Offroad Design has the adaptors and shafts. Go to offroaddesign.com and look under the doubler section.

Are you sure its a dana 60 front. make sure its a 60!!! All the f250 that I've seen are dana 44 fronts They look big but their dana 44. Also Their will be a casting number on housing saying 44 or 60. The casting # will be on the bottom front near long tube.Or get the build # on axle tube stamped on long tube on front. Something like 610023-1. This is the build number from factory good info to learn on dana axles. Hope this could help. I happened to have spicer book and can find this info up to 1978. that 610023 number is from a 1978 supercab snowfighter axle open nuckle diff.
