International Scout SOA Conversion Question

If I want to do a SOA conversion, do I have to change the angle of the steering knuckle?  I have heard about just using a drop pitman arm, and I have heard of grinding off welds on the axle tube, and twisting, and re-welding.  I believe this is called caster angle.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

well i did a soa on my yj and i used a drop pitman and made a costum stab link that i made using the ends of my old stab link and bending a piece of tube in a z shape and welding on my old ends and gussets to keep the bar stiff. cause when you leave your stab link at a steep angle you get bump steer. and the mod your talking about on your axle would be changing your pinion angle not your caster. the term caster or camber refers to how your tire leans in or out on the top. and the only reason to change your pinion angle is if your deiveshaft would bind when you flex out the axle. i would look into getting a cv driveshaft first. hope this helps.

will work for jeep parts.

Could you elaborate on cv driveshafts?  Is this a drive shaft with a cv joint in it somewhere?  I have also read about using shims to tilt the perch for the leaf springs.  With a SOA, you would use new perches, and would just weld them where they need to go, right?

It's in the family so I can do this, go ask this over at the forums on FourWheeler.com. There are two members there with scouts that I know for a fact have done this, and possibly more.
