What front solid axel will work best in my 87 4 runner?

When I was in little Moab in S.L.C people where telling me to find an axel out of a Jeep wagener rather than one out of an older toy.   Any suggestions

Thanks

To go with another option other than toyota doesn't make much sense to me because the toyota 8 inch can be built stong enough to probably handle 38 inch tires with a V-6.  My guess of why they told you to avoid it, would have to be that the stance of '79 to '85s was 3 inches thinner (I think) than the later years.  If you did get one of these front axles, you'd have to make it wider or use wheel spacers but other than that, it should work.  I'm not sure how the Jeep axle would fit though.

jeep axles are weak toyota are overbuilt and can be made even stonger, if you want real strength look into dana 44 or 60. with some major work you can put a ford high pinion front in it but you will need someone who can weld really good and understands steering and suspension mods.

i used a narrow width 79 cherokee front and a scout rear in my cj5 and my 87 yota.you want the one that does not have factory flares on fender.the solid axle yotas are good but u will need front spacers or swap a older rear to match if u wanna go yota

Toy axles are comparable to d44's as far as strength goes.  Most SAS kits include everything to swap a toy axle into a later model truck including the wheel spacers.  Going that route would be the easiest by far.  As for a d44, it would depend on what it came from.  Jeeps have a similar width but most are 5 lug.  Chevy's are 6 lug but are full width.  You could always get a parts truck with both axles that you want and swap it all.
