Hi everyone. Im finally getting my first jeep.. A 79 cj-7. Im new to jeeps, and was curios what axles and diff are in this. Im going to pick it up sat. it has the 401 engine. if that helps. luckily the owner was good to it. the damn thing looks new still.
anyway thanks for any comments.  

Well it came with a D30 in front and a AMC 20 in rear but it never came with a 401 so if it has one it has been swapped in. In 79, a 304 V8 was the only V8 option.  

Cool, thanks a bunch. maybe its a 304 then, his wife said 401, is what she thought anyway. Im assuming the t-case may be a 300. tranny is auto. thanks for the words of wisdom. much appreciated.  

A 79 Jeep came with a THM400 (last year it did). As far as Tcase, with a automatic, it came with a quadratrac full time 4x4 drive. If that Tcase is not in there, it has been swapped out and rear axle may have been swapped out too for different Tcase because full time case had a offset pig in rear axle. (in line with front axle pig)
