I have a 93 Jeep Cherokee that was just lifted 5" lift w/ 33" tires. When I first road tested the jeep the swaybar wasn't connected & I was still using the stock steering stabilizer & the tires were pretty worn. At about 25mph usually after a minor bump the steering wheel would violently pull left & right & the front axle would feel like my tires were trying to wobble off, the shaking wouldn't stop until I slowed down to about 10mph braking as quick as I could. I got new tires balanced them and had the alignment done on my jeep the shaking would occur now at 35mph and above. I reconnected the swaybar and upgraded to a aftermarket steering stabilizer the jeep drove fine with only minor shakes & vibrations I could now drive up to 50mph okay. Its been about two days and today it started up with those crazy shakes again after minor bumps going above 40mph below 40 is alright. Does anyone have any ideas as to what would be causing the shaking and how to eliminate the problem? This is to be a daily driver and needs to be running as smooth as possible. Any help I can get would be greatly appreciated. THANKS

I believe that you have the "death wobbles". Did you change out your pitman arm when you did the lift?

we had the same problem when we did a 6" lift on a ford f250. we had to add a heavier cross stabilizer( frame on one side across the body to the axle on the other).

Death wobble is also known as caster shimmy. Have you had an alignment shop look at it - preferably a reputable 4X4 shop with an alignment rack. Some of the generic alignment shops wouldn't have a clue with a 4X4, or any lifted truck not to factory specs. These folks would probably reference some on-line tech source like 'Mitchel on-demand' and it would give them BS factory spec info which would be worthless in your case.
Doubling up on your steering stabilizer shocks can alleviate the problem somewhat , but probably not the cure.
Hope this helps you some.

Check your tracbar mount on the drivers side frame. The bolts tend to come lose. I used lock washers and lock tite and have not had any further problem. If the mount is secure then look at the bushing and end. The factory tracbar uses a tierod end. These wear out too.

You would be surprized at how many jeeps have this problem, but most will have it at 55mph and up. some people say that it will shimmy your jeep so bad that you will fear wrecking. I am here to tell you not to worrie. I had this same problem and fixed it the only way you can fix it. NEW TRAC BAR!! spend the $100 and put it on. make sure it is adjustable*, That will take care of it.

trac bars and stabilizer shocks arnt the only answers. some are the fact that some run wider tires and rims. i have 15" wide rims and 40" tsls and had the death wobble turned out to be wheel bearings and stabilizer shocks. but you need to consider the other components steering arm can have egg shaped fitting (TIE ROD END). ALL SHOULD CHECK ACCORDINGLY.

When you have the caster death wooble, the answer is in getting the axle stable, not trying to brute force it. Resetting caster angle to the correct amount for tires and lift will cure the problem and return the front axle to a stable state.

You did lower the transfer case, didnt you? I never got the "death wobble", but I installed Heavy-Duty steering stabilizer, and had front-end alignment when I got the big tires mounted. I also replaced ball joints, front hubs, sway bar end links and other worn bushings all at the same time. Good Luck!

Just to save face, 80% of Jeeps with the Death wobbles are not even lifted and still have stock tires. BUT i think the jist of what is being said here is to get your front in Tighter and aligned right and then check over everything again. LOL

Proper caster angle plays a BIG roll in overall front axle stability.
