if they are ford axles then they are dana axles. go to  http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/Dana44.htm

this is about the dana 44 but it tells how to identify all dana axles if you read through it.

I have a 1973 and a 78 F250s and I believe they are light 1tons, Dana 60s with 410 gears.  I could be wrong about the Dana 60s.  My question is I want to put my 78 diffs under my 73 truck but my 78 is a auto. and my 73 is standard and the drive shaft angle is different any body know if that is a big issue?

I believe your rear axle is a sterling 50 and your front is a dana 44/50/60. Its probley not the 60 since I only believe they came in 78/79 models.Your rear axle may even be a 9 inch(look to see if there are any bolts on it, holding the cover on.If there are then its not a 9inch.

Too the guy asking about the axel swap. I do not believe there is any way to use the drive shafts.I may be wrong but i think you need new shafts front and back. The one trucks a Hi-boy and the others not and that adds diffrent angles in the shafts to and from the diff to tranny and t-case.

Look on frt diff on lower housing on bottom casting. Their should be a number casted into housing. 44 or 60. this will tell you what axle you have. Same scenerio on rear. Also on frt diff on long tube will be some numbers stamped into tube like 6066995 this is the actual build number for this axle from ford/dana. Might have to break out the wire brush to find it. Its on all the older truck. Same number on dana 60 stamped in tube. Question on 44 is it a high pinion or low pinion?? Most were Dana 44 on front.
