i would love to see someone come up with a strong ifs system. i think it would be great for mud bogging. i'm a fabrcator by trade and have always wanted to try something like that. one idea i have is to try and see if a harden steel collar around the cv would strenght it or not. something like the steel collar for sami 's birfields. i don't know, know i could make the collar but would that help some of the problems?

i have a chevy ifs and all i can say is while any additional protection is good this isnt going to help much the whole system is medioacer at best the big problem is the cv is weak to begin with ,the diff is aluminumand the tie rod ends are weak at best but if all your going to do is mud and your not going to do any hard slaming you should be ok just the way it is while i like my truck im kisking my self for choosing it becuase your very limited in the off road world.i wish gm would get there act together i know they along with many other truck co. could realy learn a thing or 2 or 10 from jeep they nailed the hot rod nowits time for the truck .im trading mine for an f250 superduty streight axle ford sorry but its true chevy has nothing on ford or dodge when it come to off roading and none of them can touch a jeep but you cant tow a 30' trailer with a jeep (wrangler) so the ford is the best opt. for me .the name on the truck dont mean squat to me can it perform ????????im a truck guy !!!!!!!!!!! when its done my name will be on it any way .......

GM's philosophy 98 % of ALL trucks never see a rock bigger than a quarter and 99% of those trucks will be driven on the road so comfort is JOB1.about 20% of the people who buy a GM truck will lift it go mudding or what ever. so the Road worriors win! Just look at all the Tahoe's & Denali's with 22" and 50 series...

If your a fabricator then why dont you just swap it out for a sloid axle. I swapped out my IFS for a solid axle after breaking about ten times. The Reverse rotation D60 I put in its place hasnt broken once. and to be honest, it took longer to take all the IFS crap off of my truck than it did to hang the front axle and leaf springs in it.

Since you are a fabricator, how about trying to come up with an easy way to install the 9.25 i.f.s diff in a 1/2 ton, and still be able to keep the 6 hole bolt pattern. B/c this is what I am wanting to do with my truck.

There is no easy way here and why upgrade pig without axles? I have seen it done once with a lot of cutting and fabling where they used the 9.25 pig with 8.25 axles (9.25 axle will not fit in bearings and hubs) The had to use thick spacer adapters to use 8.25 axle shaft with 9.25 pig (9.25 axle are longer too) which potentially weakens drive line even more. A chain is only as strong as weakest link. If you need more beef in a 1500 IFS, if it is a 88 to 99 you can do a solid axle swap with after market kits, if it is a Silverado you are SOL here leaving you to trade truck for a proper fix.

Does anyone know makes the parts for the Pro 4 trucks or where I can look to buy them. I have seen them in action, and the abuse they take rivals anything I've ever seen someone take a solid axle through.

of all the IFS systems that have ever been; the strongest and most reliable system was the FORD TTB (twin track beam)
so a friend and I are going to build a small one seater, 4x4 buggy with IFS using a one off TTB idea.
i am going to cut the pumpkin off of the rest of the beam and mount it dead center in the front to the frame, then im fabricating new tube beams and will recycle the c's and knuckles off of the D35 or use D44 live axle knuckls and c's... not sure yet which will be easiest to work with? the beams will mount just under the pumpkin in the center rather than crossing each other like a FORD does.
i will use two passenger side inner stub shafts and set up two equal length 3 piece axles with u joints rather than CV's. a radious arm or ladder bar will locate the beams at the knuckle end and some recycled dirt bike shocks for suspention!!! after all its just a buggy to race around and jump and do some pit running. the shocks are adjustable too so i can dump the air, soften the spring rate and it may be able to crawl and articulate? ![]()
any thoughts?

The Ford TTB IS NOT IFS!!. It is a swing axle design that is about as modern as a rear swing axle from a 49 VW that has been made steerable. It is well known for eating tires and handle quirks because of wild camber angle and track width shifts as axle articulates. True IFS does not do this and it not based on a axle with a hinge in it.
