aight so my truck dosnt ride good unless its under load when its coasting it gets pretty bad going bout 60. i was wondering if anyones on here runs a cardan joint on a k10/somthing similer and how much it helps, were to get one. i know my axles probly need to be shimed or just move the spring mounts but im saving all that work for the one tons. also i was looking at some tcase drop kits and i dont see how itd work on anything but a divorced case.thanx for the help guys

If you are having vibration problems due to Ujoint angles CV's can help a lot. You are correct on lower Tcase, no good unless it is divorced because lowering the rear of it to reduce rear drive shaft angle, increases angle on front drive shaft. You can shim rear axle but not front because it will throw off caster angle on front axle.

well i got under there and my front shaft has about .5 inch clearence over the crossmember so strike that one.the front allready has a cv.could i chop the rear or would it be cheaper to get a new shaft fabed up .also if i can chop it up can i still use my tcase slip yoke or do i have to change the tail housing and get a fixed shaft with a slidin yoke somewhere down the axel.

You need a CV on front of front drive shaft too! In rear, both end of it if both are at angle. A good drive shaft shop should be able to modify your current shafts with CV's.

so it would be safe to use a cv axel without a fixed output on my tcase or should i just replace the 208 with my 205

If you replace the 208 with a 205 you will take a big hit on low range reduction plus low range is a planetary set on 208 which is stronger, quieter and more efficient in power transfer and weighs about 75 lbs less than 205 too. Lack of a fixed output is not a deal killer here even though some think it is. A CV will reduce vibration loads on output shaft and its bushing and greatly extend its service life when run at high angles. 208's are sturdy Tcases and as long as you run correct axle ratios for tire size and usage and change fluid in them every 12 or 15 K you will have a long service life. With a chain driven Tcase clean oil is important for long chain service life.

i might just hold off to get a lomax 205. i think that case is the best for the money.

Actually I think the "best" 205 combo is a 205 with a 203 double on it. It is big and heavy but it has 3 speeds in 4x4 (approx 1 to 1 , 2 to 1 and 4 to 1) and 2 speeds in 2wd (1 to 1 and 2 to 1) Personally I think people place too much focus on some of these Tcases. You strongest reduction units are your axles yet many will not properly regear them and then get high dollar strong Tcases with extra deep low range to make up for tall gears and big tires when if they had simply regeared axle they would have done fine.

well ive never been a big fan of 2xtcases more stuff to break and it would just add to my angle anachry.if i was every to do a long bed tug o war truck or a rock crawler yea.but just hitten the mud holes its too much.o and thank for all the input youve drilled into everyones heads about axel ratios im going as deep as my 14 bolt will let me 5.13.

For what is it worth, Yukon makes a 5.38 for that axle now.
