So Tags are up and my smog is a must, It is time to visit the referee and declare my compliance with the law, a 2005 5.3 vortec engine with the same year 4l65e in my 1985 chevy 3500. I made an apointment at the ref scheduling center (800 622 7733) Thursday 4-30 9:40 AM. The ref wanted to know the year of the new engine, source, if all the obdII equipment was present and if I had a scanner port in the vehicle. I was asked for my registration and waited in a waiting area about 10 Ft from the test station. My truck is a 3500 series and was not required to spin the dyno. After 90 minutes of inspection and a few questions of how I did things and where my evap cannister and lines were routed I was told the gas and visual PASSED!!!!  However... The computer stored a code comming from my alternator. MY ALTERNATOR!!!???  What does that have to do with my smog???? Well... it is a "P" code  registered as a P0622 ALR duty cycle circuit. OK I did notice my Volt gauge spike upto 16 V 2 to 3 days before and chances are my alt is fried.

It is easyer than you think. Just add Evap and exahust to the swap and you are good.

I have certified 7 swaps alredy and working on an 85 CJ8 with a 2005 6.0 and 4L80E. Also working on my 88 toyota with a 3.5 liter vortec 5 cylinder engine from a HUMMER H3

Keep in mind that EPA is getting tougher and we will all have to comply sometime, This multy million dollar AQMD building in Diamondbar ca. does not employ over 700 people just to add to the commute on the 60 FWY, It is full of Lawyers, engineers, chemists, dyno ficility, runs on solar power and provides Hybrid, CNG, Electric cars for some of its employess.
But dont feel bad, They will also exchange your old gasoline lawnmower for a 24 Volt electric one for free
