No unless you do a lot of mods like move the front springs outward. The 84-97 dana 60's have a wider mounting area.

A swing axle is a POS and not fit for lawnmower duty in my book. Poorest excuse for a front drive axle ever dumped on the unsuspecting public in a Detroit 4x4.

Ford didn't go to the twin traction beam until 1980.

Yes and they stayed with it far too long. It was the Explorer roll over suits that finally quietly killed it (it was one of the main contributing factors to induce the roll over during control loss (though Ford never really admitted it, they did quietly drop it.)

The Explorer roll over issue didn't have much to do with the front suspension, it was the Firestone tires. The belts would break, just a poor engineering from Firestone. There was a show on the history channel all about Firestone about two weeks ago.

Pure BS!!! No vehicle should be so unstable that it cannot survive a tire blowout. Also FORD recommended tire pressures BELOW tire manufactures rating for load (for a softer ride) which causes tires to run hotter and fail sooner. It was shown that when tire blew the high CG of explore vs its track and marshmallow suspension induced a yaw and lean and then when over corrected the swing axle would tuck under, narrowing front track further and over she would go. As litigation heated up Ford quietly redesigned Explorer by lowering CG, expanding track wider, raised recommended tires pressure and scraping TTB front axle all in one swoop. Furthermore, generally when such radical changes are made a manufacture will promote them in advertising for it but not a word was said about these handling "improvements" because if they had, it would have admitted that they had a problem that needed correcting. BTW, the new Explorer failed roll over drop tests for a few years too because in their quest to reduce its rollover fondness, they lightened roof frame to save weight and further lower CG and it would crush flat in the 2 foot upside down drop test for rollover crush resistance. They quietly fixed that a few years later too.

Do you work for Car and Driver or something. It seems as if you know the answer to every question that is posted on this sight and I'd bet you are on a few others sights as well. And if you don't, then you must have a very sad life to be replying to all these questions late at night. Go to a club or bar and try to find a friend of the opposite sex, or the same, what ever you are into.

The axle is wider by acoulple of inches pads are different also. But if your creative and fab skills it can work. Just have to be a linked system of some sort. I have a 90 dana 60 front under a 77 ford frame on air bags. Little wider but helps on header clearance. 40"hawg 16.5 wide and turns great. It is a perk of running a little wider front. Its my hunting rig. The only problem in fab work was the 77ford 1/2 ton tie rods are bigger than 1990 one ton stuff. have to drill out taper on tie rods or fab you tie rods up to work adjustment link near steering gearbox has different threads. Start fabing up and get er done. I own and built my own system. My girlfriend said it doesn't hurt her boobs anymore. I love airbags. She's got big boobs by the way, wouldn't want to hurt them. Concerned 4wheeler. If you have any questions drop me a note, been running this system for about 5 yrs and love it.
