Are there kits available to rebuild my fathers 87 Dodge D-100. Its a 1/2 ton with a 318 and im not sure what kind of tranny is in it. The tranny is slipping bad and my father will not let the truck go to the bone yard. Any information would be great. Thanks

the friction and seal kit can be purchased from the local auto parts, the torque flite is one of the easiest to bulid also.

What is the torque flite? This will be my first Dodge tranny rebuild. I rebuilt a tubro 400 a couple of months ago and it came out great. Is the friction and seal kit the only thing that usually needs to be rebuilt on these trannys?

yep, and occasionally the 2nd band.
if its fried it may need new steels also along with a convertor, at the very least have the old one flushed and thrust measured. flush the cooler lines..

Can all this be done without pulling the tranny all the way out of the truck?

nope, the tranny has to come completely out. the only thing you can do with it in the vehicle is service the valve body and adjust the bands.
everything comes out the the front.
