i have a 1988 GMC truck with a tired 4.3L V6 with a five speed. How hard would it be to swap in a 305 or 350?

Not hard at all. Pretty much a bolt in. The hardest part is the fuel system/control match up and that is not too hard either if you swap in a TBI motor. Given todays fuel prices, a 350 may not be wisest choice though.
