Im wanting to swap out my quadra trac, and put in a d-300. Anyone have any info on this swap. Its a 79 cj-7 304 v-8, and a th-400. Is this a feasable swap?
Thanks.

You will need a adapter that let you reverse feed D300 through front "normal" output and bolt it to tranny. This will place the other output on correct center line for front and rear axle. You will also need to change output shaft on tranny if you plan to use it. There is a part time kit for your current Tcase if you want to convert it.

Damn Sno, your a plethora of info on jeeps. Thanks a bunch man. is the quadra trac worth keeping? And does the part time kit add hubs up front or just a disengage type set up. Im pretty new to jeeps, this is my first and I love it.

I know QuadraTracs well as I have owned one for over 22 years. II actually have a rebuilt Qtrac Tcase on shelve here with a partime kit in it that I was planning on using when I restore my 79. (I bought it a few years ago because Qtracs are hard to find and I even have a another stock case spare for parts if need be) The kits come in 2 flavors. One with part time with a 1 to 1 drive ratio and the other with a 14% overdrive in it (driven sprocket is smaller than drive sprocket) Both come with a diff replacement unit and sprocket and new chain. Lockout hubs too but hub are not hard to ad because Jeep uses a standard drive axle minus hubs so hubs are easy to add. The Qtrac is a pretty sturdy case and if it is not a daily driver and mostly off road I would suggest you leave it as is because full time is superior off road. The nice thing about Qtrac is that they use a nice planetary reduction unit that is strong and quiet and in a conversion lo range would be available in 2wd and 4wd. (in stock tcase you can use lo unlocked as much as you want on pavement)

To get a Dana300 in you have two options. 1) Use the conversion "kit" from Novak Conversions. It comes with a 23-spline transmission output shaft for your TH400 transmission, a custom machined adapter and some other small parts. There will probably need to be some work on the driveshafts and the transmission crossmember, plus you will need to cut a hole in the floor to run the floor shifter(s) you choose to use.

A cheaper route (since the Novak kit is $500+) is to get the GM 32-spline TH400 output shaft and stock adapter from a Chevy TH400-NP208 trans/t-case combo used in the 1980's. Then grab you a 32-spline Dana300 input shaft kit from Advance Adapters. drop the input shaft in the 300, rebuild your AMC TH400 with the GM output shaft and bolt it all together. Less driveshaft  ,shifter and crossmember mods....bolt it up and hit the trail

I have a 76 cj 7 with a quadra trac transfer case. i was wondering if anyone could help me out with trying to figure out an oil leak.  It has the part time conversion kit.  i recently sealed the entire transfer case due to leaks.  Now, that it's completely sealed it leaks after i hit 45 miles per hour and its doing from the shifter.  i have replaced the o-ring but its building to much pressure to hold the oil in the transfer case.
