So I'm taking off my intake manifold, basically just to clean it.  This is a '77 Chevy 1/2 ton 4x4.  It has an Edelbrock intake and carb, MSD ignition, distributor, all this nice aftermarket stuff.  No real reason to mess with any of it, but I'm a dork, so I'm messing around.  Under the manifold, on the top of the block, was the craziest thing I 've seen in a while.  There, laying on the block, is a perfectly intact 12 inch knife.
Now see if this makes sense.
The truck has about 9 inches of lift, 35" tires, dual exhaust, plus all kinds of other stuff.   Most people replace their heavy cast iron manifolds for an Edelbrock or something like that, but this rig already has that stuff done.  One can move on to other areas of the truck, without putting any more thought into your fuel intake and ignition, right?
So now this dewd sells the truck (or trades it in) to a little hole in the wall dealership.  This dealership now has all these selling points to make it a quick sale.  Anybody buying it would do other upgrades, (if they do any at all) why mess with the top half of the motor - it's all Edelbrock and MSD.  The truck is selling for $1400.
"Surely nobody will look under here"
What a great place to hide the murder weapon.  Think about it... Nobody would replace all that stuff with new stuff - no need to.  Therefore, that part of the engine will not see the light of day for a long, long time, if ever.  By the time it is found, the heat from the engine destoyed any evidence of blood and/or fingerprints.
I'm thinking about taking the whole truck apart to see if there is any "buried treasures" there.  Could be they hid the murder weapon and the loot till "the heat was off", track the truck down and steal it back.  The police arn't going to look real hard for an old '77 chevy.  Genious!
  What do ya think?

It could have been a stash for knife but I doubt anything else is there to be found. You might contact police and see if they are looking for a 12 inch knife.

We called the police and they were pretty interested, but there is not much they could do other than have a report on file to cross-reference.  I just thought it was kinda cool

It is kinda "cool" though possibly a bit morbid too.

I'm just really glad that somebody else can think of some of the weird things that I would come up with. I would be sure to check between the seat springs in case it was a crime spree!
