If I went with manual today it would be a NV4500. While a NP435 like the SM465 was a good tranny in its day, there are better options today.

incase u dont know i have 96 chevy k1500 5.7 engine 4l60e tranny im putting dana 60 front axle out of 99 ford diesel ill be going with 13inches of lift and either running 39.5 super swamper tsl or 16x40x16.5 super swamper ltb i plan on running 5.38gears to keep tranny happy im currently deciding rebuild the 4l60e tranny to hold up or go with nv4500 manual tranny

With 5.38's and a aux tranny cooler, your 4L60 should hold up fine. If you are rebuilding your tranny, I would suggest you upgrade it with 4L65 parts which has stronger sprags and planetaries.

http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billavista/60_front/ This web site has every thing you need to know about dana 60s ford dodge or chevy it even shows you how to convert a dullie front axle to a single wheel and when you do the swap it would be a very good idea to box your frame because i didnt and the flex in my frame has broken my back window out twice and my frame is bent a litte now
