I own 4 yotas and love every one of them, even the parts rigs.  The ones I wheel are the old solid axle trucks.  Come on now strength of a Dana 44 in a 1/4 ton truck, and axle shafts the same size as the legendary Ford 9 all with factory 4.10 gears?  And don't you jeepers talk to me about crawl ratios, try running dual cases with 5.0 lows and 5.29 diff gears and a stock 5 speed you get a 523.46:1 crawl ratio.  With those gears my lawnmower could do burnouts on 40" tires.  Ok I havn't owned a Jeep but my experiences with Toyotas have been good and I wont change my preference soon...

I never owned either of the two, but I would prefer a Jeep anyday. I have friends that own Jeeps and they wheel very well!!!!!!

I do like the Jeep Cherokee's with the 4.0 inline six and hope to buy one in the future.

It's also nice when you can buy one right off of the showroom floor and wheel the wee,wee out of anything else.

I bet a STOCK Rubicon would kick the snot out of your modified 83' Yota.

Yeah, I've heard of the FJ Cruizer, I see it every month in the magazine. ( extra thick paper)

A factory FJ could probalbly beat the snot out of your Yota pickup.

Riceburner all the way dude!!!!  (NOT)

you wanna talk reductions? in my jeep i have dana 60's front and rear with 5.86:1 ratios, i have a 5 speed box with a 6.68:1 ratio, a 4 speed box with 6.68:1 ratio, i have a double roller chain power splitter that puts the power to the front and rear wheels that has a 3:1 reduction. how does 784.46:1 crawl ratio sound? and all parts are 1 ton or higher in strength. yet highway speeds are still achievable. i dont think a POS yota will get away with that.

I garuntee a stock Rubi or FJ could kick the #### out of my PU, but by the same token my truck cost me $500, thats it, no more, the only thing i've had to fix was the master and slave clutch cylinders... so bottom line is i can still have tons of fun and not worry about things like paint and body damage.  And as for reduction in Jeeps (Just Everyone Else's Parts) and yotas I'm just saying the possibilities are there for the toyota, and when are you ever going to need to 700:1 reduction, the trees in my backyard grow faster than that

God Bless Our Troops!

Around here, you could buy two Toyotas (one to 'wheel and one for a spare) for about the same price as a Jeep with 100k+ miles!  They both have thier strong points, it just seems most people only recognize Jeep's ability to hold on to resale value (damn yuppies...).

Beer, it's what's for dinner.

I read an article around 1969 about a mining operation in South Africa where they routinely used Land Rovers but decided to try some other brands. The Land Rovers were trashed after a years use. Toyota Land Cruisers (the FJ40) made it about six months and the American made Jeep was junk in two.

Never own either is a Ford Man but as new goes A new Rubi has electric lockers F/R while the new FJ has only a locker in the rear. Now the Older FJ40's are very capable as the older jeeps as are the older Bronco's. From what i have heard about the new FJ is it has alot of Blind spots as does the H3. But this all about what you prefer to drive and not what someone else wants you to drive.

Im just wondering why one has to be better than the other? Ive got a Jeep XJ right now and used to have a CJ. Ive also wheeled in Zuks, Toys and a Tracker. They all have their good things and their bad things.. As far as the Jeep VS Toyota debate, I would actually recommend either of them equally. They are both excellent trucks and excellent wheelers out of the package. I dont know if youre talking about buying something thats old or something that is new, but either way, they both have some excellent offerings. Jeeps have alot of torque in the 4.0 but the 22Rs from Toyota can go deep into redline all day long and not grenade like most engines would. Jeeps have aftermarket parts availability, but Toyota has alot of beefed up parts that you can get off of other Toys. As far as reliability, I think they both are top notch (at least the Jeeps that have the 6 in them, not so crazy about the 4 popper). In the end, just get what you get, wheel it hard, fix it, wheel it again and have fun with it.

man i totally agree that a toyota is better than a jeep in most obstacles.. i have a 99 3.4liter v6 toyota tacoma with 6 inch lift 33-12.5 bfg mud terrain tires trd supercharger with chip and k & n to help it out a little but besides the point .. i went to a place called moser valley by bedford texas and i went through some narly vertical and flooded trails along with a jeep rubicon with 35- 13.5 bajas and he barely could keep up with the yota while i was surprised cause all ive heard were jeeps are the way to go...but i know toyota is by far most dependable and better wheeling

I own a JEEP and like it just fine.  Each have their own ups and downs.  I'd like to see a shootout between the new FJ Cruiser and a New Rubicon.  Even use a Rubi Unlimited to even out the length.  How about that?

If you were choosing between a Toyota pickup and a Cherokee (like I am), I'm looking most at the practical aspect. Both are really good off-road, cheap to upgrade, tough, and there's an abundance of both, but the Jeep can carry more people, while the Toyota carries more stuff. It's really up to what you need.
