What is the difference between the "Offset" and the "90" degree bolt pattern? They dont match up!

Why did they do it like that?

Offset ones are generally for engines that are externally balanced so bolt pattern is different so right parts are used.

Thanks i found out the hard way put a spare on in my sons 96 Dakota 4x4 from a 95 2wd both were 5.2 automatics.

And I waited to do those last only to find out they don't line up now i have to pull the trans again.
