I have  94 Dodge Dakota 5.2 with Automatic Trans 4x4 and the trans will not go foward it will only go in reverse.

Has anybody had this problem or know any thing about dodge trans who can suggest what is wrong?

thanks

Sounds like forward clutch is out (this clutch is used for all forward gears) Either clutches, leakage in seals for it or valve body. If it drives forward with tranny selector in 1st, then sprag/roller clutch is bad.

I have a 2wd dakota trans does any body know if i can swap the tailshaft housing from the 4wd onto the 2wd trans?

Or do i need to just swap the guts from one trans into the other.

Thank

I am not sure about Dodge but GM has long used a heavier casting in housings on 4x4 trannys to transfer Tcase counter torque to engine mounts because tranny is only thing keeping it from twisting right out of there in low range.

The Cases are different. I dont know what chrysler was thinking when they designed this but it sure sucks trying to get the automatic trans out.

Has any one done this befor on a 4WD dakota?

I can seem to get the cover off to get at the convertor bolts?

I already loosened the axle support brackets and the cover is loose but it wont slide down?

Any suggestions.

Finally after droping the exhaust, removing the steering shaft to get the starter out the trans came out.

Also dont forget the bolt behind the oil filter.
