was wondering if anyone can assist me in my auto to manual swap? I bought a 78 short box chevy, auto and 203 I believe, and was going to do a swap to a four speed which I paln to buy as a set{tranny and t-case}I know I will need to install pedals my question is what problems will I encounter as far as driveshafts and crossmembers lining up? are all the transfer cases-tranny set ups the same length? what do I need to know?

If you use a SM465/205 combo it was native to that truck that year when equipped with a manual so it would not be a hard swap to do. You may have to shorten front drive shaft and lengthen rear one though a bit because 465 is shorter. I would strongly suggest that you consider installing a NV4500 rather than a 465 because it will give a wider total gear spread and it is closer to length of automatic when adapted in so drive shafts may not be a issue. The NV4500 shifts much smoother than a 465 too and is quite strong too. If you go the 4500 route I would suggest you use a 92 to 94 GM version as it has a deeper first gear granny than later models. Stay away for Dodge 4500 made before 99 or so because they had issues with 5th gear retainer sleeves/rings. I would also stay away from all 4500's that had been behind CTD's because they tend to run OD out of them over time if past owners lugged them in OD a lot.

yep pretty much bolt in and go, the pedals also will bolt right in to already drilled factory holes under the dash.
