Is he dodge ram a good long lasting truck. im looking at buying one with the 5.2. i was wondering if they have alot of problems and how many miles you usually get out of them. and i was wondering if the 5.2 had enough power for offroading and occasional racing at a stoplight!!!

These trucks last a long time. As long as it wasnt abused. The 5.2 has more then enough power.

longevity seems to sway back and forth with rams. i know some people that have 400,000 on them and others that died after 150,000. i personally think they are a really nice truck that have a lot of 4wheeling potential. but you are always gonna get your lemons and people who hate them.

I am going to have to disagree here on long life. My son is a assistant manager at a oil change place and been there for close to a year now and he has seen which high mileage vehicles show up in shop for servicing and they are not Dodges. (not Fords either) Usually they are 99 and old GM's and he had one 350 in a while ago in a fleet truck that had over 500K miles on it and still going strong. Seen a lot over 200 and 300K and has yet to see first Dodge or Ford gas truck there close to or over 200K. If they are out there, there is not many of them.

Starting sometime in early 90's Dodge went to that bastard design on front axle where they did away with hubs and notched out front axle tube near diff on passenger side for a disconnector which serious weakened the axle. I have seen a LOT of lifted Dodge 4x4's with bent front axles because of this. They should be avoided if you are looking for a truck to lift and play hard with unless you replace front axle with a older style solid one with no notch in it. ALso On the Jeep thing, I am a bit of a purest on Jeeps have owned them for well over 20 years and been around them twice as long as that. I do not beleive in powering Jeeps with 350's. Never have and never will. I do not like Cheveeps or Jeevys. If I want a V powered one it would have a AMC V8 in it as they even had them as a option in mid 70's through early 80's. They bolt right in because they have same bolt pattern on bell housing as 6 too.  I like keeping a Jeep a Jeep even moreso today as Chrysler has given Jeep a serious identity crisis today and forgotten what a Jeep is supposed to mean and stand for. To me the stopped being Jeeps in 94 when they did away to leafs in all four corners to make it more civilized and more car and less Jeep. See I remember when Jeeps were really Jeeps so to speak.

i like jeeps as well. i personally own a 89 toyota pickup and also hate when people start throwing 350's in them. i like my 4 banger with 300,000 miles on it just fine.

I think that one of the silliest things you can do is to take a relatively light and nimble Yota with a 4 banger and put a V8 in it and big wide axles and make into into some clone that no longer does a lot of things well, is harder to cool, a lot more front heavy and uses more fuel too. I am a bit of a purest in that I like to kinda keep vehicles close to how they were made and keep Jeeps all Jeeps and Yotas all Yota.

I wasnt going to rip a perfectly good jeep engine out of a jeep. I was going to find some junk yard jeep or high mileage jeep and put the 350 in it. I would just be giving the jeep a second chance. or if i can find a good running jeep with the i6 i would get that.

A Jeep with a Chevy motor is not a second chase. Another AMC motor would be because they came with them. BTW, a AMC V8 will bolt tight up to a 6 cyl bell housing too.

The only prob with amc motors is i dont want a carb it is going to be my daily driver. I need something reliable even with a harsh winter where i live. plus i dont have a ton of experience with carbs im pretty good with efi.

man i like the way you think. countless people tell me to put some firebreathing engine in my 2200 pound yota. when my 4 banger quits, another one is getting put right in it

It realy all depends on how it was taken care of before.
They have just the same gas milage as chevy and ford. My friend has a 95 ram 5.9 38s. The axle is stock. No problems. No bending. He changes all oils and take care of it, He dont horse beat it to make it bend. Thier front axle is storng. The CAD may be the week point, but by no means is it weak. It can handle 38s. With some lower gears it can take 38s anyday. It has a soild front axle. Ford and chevy dont, they have the sh*tty IFS, that can barly handle 35s. If you dont belive me check out the aritcal this mag did. There trannys are good. I have a 46rh that came in all v8s dak and rams. I have not had any tranny problems. Im at 150,000miles. I change the fuild and no problems. I have a high horsepower 5.9 mag.
There are several kits out there to convert a chevy 350 into a jeep.
A AMC motor would be cool but ya carbs do suck!
So if your stuck on donig a v8 I would sugest a 5.9 mag or a efi ford engine. If you get a set up from a pre 97 it will be the OBD1 system which is basicly a stand alone engine management system. Chevy used throttle body injection all the way to 96 which wasnt the best for power or economy. and If you get a 97 that is OBD2 which has alot more electronics. It would realy be hard to set up with that JUNK!

if i was gonna put a v8 in the jeep it would be the 350. i hate ford all together nothing good. ive never seen a ford get over 150,000 without at least one MAJOR prob. i could deal with the 5.9 but i prefer chevys and the 350.
