Well 79 burbs did not come with D60's in front. They came with a GM 10 bolt. A 10 bolt is not good for 38's and even if it was, stock axle ratios would not do well with 38's. Then, it is going to be a matter of feeding the beast. 400 SB were never known for good MPG them and with 38's figure on around 8 MPG average or less and at 4 bucks a gallon that adds up fast on a limited budget.

alright, you are gonna need at least 8 inches of lift to clear the 38.5. i would go with a 10 or 12 inch kit to clear the tires. i have 8 inches of lift with 40 inch ground hawgs and had to trim the fenders. go with an all spring lift. stay away from lift blocks even though they are cheaper. gonna have to lengthen drive shafts and brake lines with any of those lifts. gearing is kinda gonna depend on what you are gonna do with it

Gearing is not a open for what you are going to do with it in that it is gonna be a slug unless you regear it and shorten tranny life. You see it all the time. People lift them and put big tires on 4x4 then when tranny toasts it is tranny that is crap, not because of axle gears and tires. Same with Tcase. Some will spend a lot of time, money and effort on a bigger Tcase with deeper gears or stronger tranny when stock one fails when if they properly geared axles for tire size they would not have tranny, Tcase or drive shaft Ujoint issues and have great overall performance too.

ok i found out that it is a 85 suburban and i was planing on 5.38 gears because i have a ford ranger that my brother built with 33s and didnt regear axles and the trans went out and i dont want to have to do that. and im ok for the 8 miles to the gallon i work 4 miles away from home and my school is only a mile away from that so its not to bad. so will the drive train from the suburban fit right under the blazer and if not what would i have to change. and on top of the 8 inch lift im going to run a 1.5" inch shakle so i dont have to trim my finders.

Parts will swap but there is not D60 in front of that burb unless some one put it there. They never came that way. With this in mind you want to limit tires to 35's max if you want it to be more than a parking lot queen with a 10 bolt front axle.

ok finally im back on here so i have been doing a lot of looking around and research and it is not a d60 i have i was mistakin it is a 10 bolt. but if i build my d44 can it handle 38s and is there a way to make my 6 lug d44 a 8 lug d44 and if so what do i need i have been told many diffrent things and i have been told that 4.11s for gears should be fine for 38s but i dont know i am up for sugestions and i want to keep the blazer short so i am planing on 6 inch lift with apropriate* fender triming. it has a turbo 350 with a np203 and i have a np205 off a turbo 400 what can i do a doubler kit im going to keep the turbo 350 trans

4.11s are good with up to 33's. without overdrive i would go with 4.88's. and a built dana 44 could handle SOME abuse but not much and by the time you spend money to build it you could get a dana 60 just as cheap. doublers are cool but not needed plus the adapter will run you $700 and up so its not worth it. and yes you can buy hub assemblies to change bolt patterns on the axles.

also what would be best is to save up about $1000 and get a 700r4 built up. itll handle bout 700hp have better low end torque and mpg and 5.13's.

you can find one in any one ton chevy/gmc or a 93 or older one ton dodge. you might could try looking on craigslist or looking for junk trucks.

put a 4 speed tranny in it, get rid of automatic, put a 6 inch lift, drop the brake line brackets, should be fine with 411s,
