I have an 08 Frontier, I want to swap the differential gears out for 4:11's to compensate for the 35's.  I can not find anyone who makes gears that will work in the stock Nissan specific Dana 44.  Can anyone point me the right direction?

4.11's are a waste there, 4.56's or 4.88's will help.

even if ya have a 1-1 ratio with 35" rubber it's a heavy load on the hwy, an overdrive tranny will hardly spend any time in OD especially if ya haul anything with it.

if yer just hauling it around on a trailer the atlas will get ya the low gearing yer after for crawling though it'll do much better/lower with it properly geared for daily driving also.

the 5spd manual has a 3.5 1st and a .81 OD.
is 2000rpm @65 enough for 280# of torque @4000rpm to pack around a 4400# truck with 35" rubber?

My fear with going with such low gears is the size of the pinion gets too small it will become the weak link in the drive train.  Am I just being too paranoid?

yep, paranoid... the axles will break even before a 5.38 set will have problems.

if ya do have the 5spd manual the 4.56's will be awesome.

I haven't found any specs on the 6 spd or the 5 spd auto yet.. which do ya have?

Your a wealth of knowledge!  My truck is an eOD automatic.  I have much different numbers than stock but no Dynamometer results to work with.  The engine comes stock with a reported 262 hp.  I've added an Airraid cold air intake, Poweraid throttle body spacer, a Stillen computer module and intercooled supercharger with JBA shorty headers, and magnaflow exhaust.  The Stillen supercharger supposedly adds 93 hp at the rear wheels.  With all the other modification the truck has GREAT highway characteristics.  My problem is the 0-60 times.  My engine makes all of it's power from about 3500 rpms and up, but getting to 3500 is a ***  The truck labors to get through the low RPM range.  I have asked everyone what I can do to "wake it up" and I keep getting the same answer, gears.

So, any ideas where I can find a set that will fit in the Nissan appointed Dana 44 on the rear?

found the auto ratios... not bad either.. the OD is .83, still I'd be looking for 4.56's there with the 35's

I still haven't figured out what is specific to the nissan d44 as far as the carrier/gears is concerned, I'd imagine the front diff may more of a challenge, what is it anyhow?

As of right now there are no gears for the d44 rear ends that Nissan Frontiers/Xterras have. Superior Gear is going to be coming out with 4.56 and 4.88 soon, but there is no word on how soon that will be. There are a good number of us that have been researching this topic for about a year now. You can find all the info we have come up with and posted at.

www.nissanoffroad.net

This includes everything concerning the front and rear diffs, weak points, and what you should expect if you decide to regear. Create an account, say hello, and check out what research has already been done. We would also love to hear more about your truck over at NOR. Good luck!
