hello i have a 2004 v-6 silverado 5 speed.  i just bought it to save gas from the 4 wheel drive (which i still have) but more economical.  i love the way the truck rides but i have problems in the rain and snow (even wet grass for that matter)  i have good tires but would it be possibly to put a locker in here only one of my wheels spin and its dumb! anyway i dont want nothing heavy duty or anything but i was just wondering if its possibly in a 2 wheel drive. i dont want air acuated or anything just so when im going strait or slightly turning it locks them both in.  thanks alot!

The solution is not as simple as it seems. Some might tell you to get a spider gear replacement lockers but they have not true differential action and can be a heart attack on snow and ice with fishtailing. I would suggest a LSD or a selectable locker at most here since this is a daily driver. The biggest reason though that is lacks traction at times is because the rear is lighter than the front it is pushing. If you properly add about 300 lbs or so of ballast in rear of bed by tail gate in winter and secure it so it cannot move around it will do much better. Given enough added weight and some proper tires it will be a bit of a tank in snow too. Being that you want max MPG though is the reason I suggested about 300 lbs. BTW I have been plowing snow for over 20 years and my current trucks does not have LSD or locker by choice as I want maximum directional control at all times. It has worked for me for many years and I get around fine in 2wd between plowing jobs because I have a lot of ballast in rear. With 2WD you want rear drive axle to weigh more than "dead" front axle under poorer conditions for best possible traction.
