I have a 81 FJ60 with 454 and th400, the trans has just been fully rebuilt with shiftkit. I installed trans with no problems, plenty of ATF and topped up with motor running in neutral, now for the "but". When i select drive, theres only a minor drop in RPM if any and no movement, likewise in reverse and when I select 'P' it made a grinding gear sound, (what the?!) I checked fluid level and it was just reading on the stick so topped it up again, it now has well over 8 litres of ATF. I havn't talked to the shop that rebuilt it yet, as its the weekend here in NZ, I've had them do previous work with no problems. Any suggestions out there?!

if it wasn't properly coupled there'd be oil dumping on the ground.
I doubt they would have missed a shaft that wouldn't reach, it is the first to contact the tranny as it's installed.

the grinding is from the park pawl skipping accross the dogs.

just plain forgot it was in neutral.. or the linkage got messed up which is easy on a d20, 300 and a twin stick 205.

Not really. Depending on how tranny to Tcase was adapted or mated. Some have a sleeve between them. I do agree it is likely in neutral and that would be the first thing to check.

yep, some have sleeves when mating a t-case with a th350 or other smaller input to a th400, then theres also a 2" wide block between em. I've got a couple of em I guess I could dig em out and snap off a pic.
