are frames the same on 79 4x4 and 81 2 wheel 1500 chevys

i bought two trucks a 79 rusted chevy 4x4 and a 81 two wheel drive can i bolt on the 4 wheel drive system to the 81 2wheel drive truck??

i believe the bodies will swap easier than trying to convert a 2wd to a 4x4

Basic frame is the same but you are going to have to remove a lot of 2wd front suspension parts and cross member cradles and replace them with 4x4 frame cross member and add leaf spring supports too. I tend to agree that a body swap might be easier here.

do a body swap but the trans hump on the 4x2 will be to low you will need to 1 cut it open and use the 4x4 or body lift 2in
