does anyone have any info on converting my 1988 chevy 3500 dually to 4wd. i have a 1996 2500 4x4 suburban and was wondering if any of the drivetrain was the same or would work under the 88 dually.i know the 88 has coil front end and the 96 has torsion bar.are the rears the same? what would be the most practical way to do this ?  thanks for any help

ah, then the swap would be extremely hard. putting the IFS on athe old style frame. you could easily put the straight axle and leafs under it though...

thats what i was thinking but i liked the thought of using the i.f.s hoping to keep a decent ride.if i went with straight axle and leafs what would i look for to work under it.and would the t.case from the sub. be sutiable or not

the t-case has the front output on the wrong side for the chevy axle, though ya could use a dana 60 from a ford up front then the 4l80le tranny and t-case would be of use, for the springs, stock springs from a 73-91 1ton 4x4 will do the trick, skyjacker has about the softest riding soft ride 2-8" lift springs.
