Would like to find info on removing roofs from large SUV's. Would like to have a large 6 seat 4x4 without a roof but ... don't want to deal with older military vehicles ... or super old Broncos.

ok... so you've got the option of a 70's blazer... up to a 90's full size bronco... toyota 4-runner... an old 60's model bronco... or a bronco II... a suzuki is a little small... you can get one of the newer 4 door JK rubicons... i'm sure im forgetting a few... but still... there are alot of options out there... or you can just do some research... usually just a bit of skill with a sawzall and some filler metal will do the trick... but you have to be careful on what you remove and what you put back in... because alot of structural integrity in those SUV's is in the pillars and spread across the roof... so you may have to make a sort of headache rack style piece to weld back in place along the cut rails and help stiffen the structure... or make a roll cage at the same time and anchor it to just about everything you can...

Thanks for the reply ... I was trying to avoid older stuff just b/c it is so hard to find and from a reliability standpoint. Also, don't know that any of them have 3rd row seating (new Rubicon does not). So, I think I am looking at sawing top off and realize there will be structural issues. Know where I could find someone with expertise to advise on that?

a toyota landcruiser has third row seating... but that's a pretty expensive vehicle to be removing the top from... you may be able find the removeable roof from an early 90's four runner and adapt that onto the landcruiser... stop by a local fourwheeling shop or a custom fabbing shop they should be able to tell you what you'll need to reinforce... other then that you'll just have to look at it... if it has an extra rib on it... then it's structural... it'll need to be re-inforced... so each of the corners and usually behind the front doors...
